Warehouses ran on different systems and transport was planned by hand, so throughput stalled and errors crept in. SAP S/4HANA with EWM joined warehousing and transport, and both speed and accuracy rose.
Each warehouse ran a different system, so service levels varied by site and head office had no common view. Transport was planned on spreadsheets and a whiteboard, routes were not optimised, and picking errors led to costly returns.
We rolled out SAP S/4HANA with Extended Warehouse Management and Transportation Management, plus radio-frequency picking. Inbound, storage, picking and dispatch follow one standard, and transport planning works from real orders.
We set up Extended Warehouse Management at the busiest site first, tuned the picking and putaway strategies to the real layout, then rolled the template to the other sites. Transport Management came on once the warehouses were stable.
Go-live took eighteen weeks across the network.
Throughput rose 35 percent as guided picking and standard processes cut wasted moves. Pick accuracy reached 99.5 percent, returns from mis-picks dropped, and transport runs fuller because routes are planned from real orders.
Every site now runs the same way, and the scanner checks each pick before it ships. Throughput is up, returns from mis-picks have nearly gone, and our trucks finally run full.
